Allabaculia

The first St. Ledger Race in 1776
was won by a horse with no name
she wasn't required to be known
by anything but a number
she must have ran..through
the dessert...to find such
a name..as Allabaculia
the name of a warrior
who revolted against
the Ottoman Empire to bring
Egyptian Independence
one of England's oldest horse races
still packs a punch..
it's not Ascot..but
it's our Ladies Day
it's our St. Ledger
in our Winner's Circle -
named after Anthony St. Leger
a soldier and a politician..
it's done in our magnificence
and it wins Natures blessing
as it's always said
the last horse of the St Ledger
brings Winter on its tail..
