America The Broken

I picture Lady Liberty, she stands so tall and proud... And then that image Fades away like a face in a large crowd... I picture her and pieces as a tear rolls down her face, as shards of shattered promises lay from place to place... we used to standΒ for Freedom now we can barely stand at all, once a mighty nation now just bracing for the fall... Our vaults once overflowing now we're in debt upΒ past our necks... and our Justice system's backwards and everything's a wreck... We fight in other countries but it makes no sense what we're fighting for, people's children dying daily marked off as casualties of War... And the government yells more orders and we listen because that's all that we can do... this is supposed to be the land of freedom, how I wish that was true... I'll be the first to say the words so many have left unspoken, I'm no longer proud to be a citizen of America the broken...

O America, we (in Europe - yes - in the United Kingdom still part of Europe for now!) need you to lead the world in the right direction. Yours is the way. But with an imbecile in charge, will there still be hope?

"The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."
Ernest Hemingway,Β A Farewell to Arms.
