American Bandstand

When I was a sophomore in high school, I’d race home right after the last bell;
People saw me running and asked, “Where’s he going, like a bat out of Hell?”
The answer was really quite simple, I explained it, they’d quick understand;
That I did not want to miss the beginning, of “Dick Clark’s American Bandstand”!
Â
I’d sit by the TV with my heart panting, for many of the girls on the show;
I’d watch them dance with my competition, I was really quite jealous you know!
There were two of them in particular, that had my heart at “Hello”;
As they both had such lovely tresses, real long had they let them grow!
Â
I fantasized about driving to Philly, to make one of them all my own;
For I was a dance king myself then, could teach them moves they’d not known!
But I found a jitterbug partner, who lived only three blocks from me;
Yet I never forgot “American Bandstand”, the greatest dance show that could ever be!

  Hello Larry, I like reading this, a personal narrative of a Day In Your Life, which is always good to read man... Twas curious, did you by chance ever get to see the Rate a Record segment back in September of 63, where Dick Clark played "She Loves You"... Which was I believe the first Beatles showing here in America... take good care my friend: Eddie
My Dear Friend Eddie,
This is an answer to both your questions. Â Evidently, there is an age difference between the two of us. Â By the fall of 1962, I was in college, and of course, had no chance to be watching television in the afternoon, so that's when my watching American Bandstand came to an end. Â By February of 1964, I got married at only nineteen, so other priorities took precedence. Â Once in a rare while, I would look in on the show, but of course, it could never represent what it did to a love struck teenager. Â But by your words, I think it brought the same thrills to you when you were in high school, as me, another love struck teenager.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Also trippy man, Twas listening to Jefferson Airplane back in 67 on American Bandstand when readin this... Take good care man:Â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKtJ0XTwgTEÂ
This reminds me of my father! He used to do the same as well! He'll talk to me about it for hours sometime and we will sit and watch videos. He also tells me all about how happy he was when he got his little 17 inch television when he graduated high school lol!Â
Really fun piece! I enjoyed!Â

Hi Sweet Lily,
You must put me in touch with your father, so we can reminisce about our love for this unbelievable show. Â What year did he graduate high school? Â Mine was 1962. Â Thank you for this lovely insight into your dear father's past, and how you and he watch videos of the show. Â I wonder if your father and I fantasized about the same girls? Â I can tell one thing, that your father was blessed with a beautiful, loving daughter.
Peace and Love,

Hello Larry...
There were certain shows that my brothers and IÂ couldn't disturb our parents...
American Bandstand being one...
Lawrence Welk, The Bong Show, My Dad loved Benny Hill, My Mother had her Soap Opera's as she referred to as her story...
Looking back I think we only talked at the kitchen table or when Dad and I would watch Hockey and cheer on Bobby Orr...
Thank you for the memories...
Great write!Â
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs, Peace and LoveÂ

My Dear Sweet Sparrowsong,
Wow, I guess that makes me old enough to be your father. Â Oh well, it could be worse. Â I could be your grandfather. Â I'm so glad the story brought back precious memories for you too. Â By the way, Linda wants to know if you are from the Boston area, as Bobby Orr was a sports hero of hers also. Â
Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Yes...
I was born in Boston...
I moved out of Taxachussetts I mean Massachusetts when I was 26...
:)
My Mother's cousin played for the L.A. Rams...
But, I was everything New England...
I was only about 6 years old when I began watching the Boston Bruins I didn't miss a game...
When Bobby got hurt I cried and cried...
My brothers played hockey and I figure skated...
But, any chance I got I would have the stick and the puck...
My brothers would tease me because the stick was so much bigger than I was and I was playing hockey with my skates and not hockey skates...
They would remind me that my brother was the goalie but, keep the puck on the ice...
Basically, Â don't knock him out because he had a game...
:)
