American Pride Poem

Some people from Britain came to this land

to see what they could find, all at hand.

These people of religion, people of shame,

Over the ocean, in big ships they came.

To fight for freedom, their dream so dear,

and make it come true, no matter their fear.

They were called pilgrims, oh yes they were.

They wanted something better, that was for sure.

The king had taxed them more and more

to the point of frustration right to the core.

A rebellion was needed, a revolution at most,

So the English came over, all the way to our coast.

So maybe the pilgrims were wrong in a way,

but they were just people, and they had a say.

And they had a reason.  They just wanted to know

how far the king and his taxes were willing to go.

The king went too far, a line he had crossed.

The colonies felt cheated and overly bossed.

These pilgrims had won, and won they had,

with George Washington as leader, our country’s own dad.

So God bless these pilgrims, who made our country’s birth,

and God bless America, for all that it’s worth.
