An Answer

She danced alone in the dim glow of the stage
bathed in the amber dreams of others
As if their observance of such gracefulness
filled that empty ideal of abandoned youths
Eyes followed the form of an angel, absorbed
music being made by gestures so perfectly timed
One's heart would flutter with her kicks
breath's held with each pose
Each woman imagined the heat of the lamps
the rapt attention of the crowd
Focused on them as they lived through the dancer
as if her routine was to their lives, the answer
