Arts & Crafts

I daydream of stories that’ll never occur.
That way, they feel and mean so much more—
Staying constant in my memory,
Even when their inspired moments turn sore.
I want to be around
When paint decorates you—
Your face already brushed with dotted freckles
That shrink as your skin stretches to smile.
Sticky fingers clutching your belly
In an attempt to brace yourself from tipping over,
From the force of laughter erupting from your lips—
Which I won’t help but to glimpse at every now and then,
Again and again and again.
Until a touch of your curls steals my focus,
Lingering on my skin like the sweetness
Of a burn’s aftermath—
Alerting my senses and weakening them all the same.
The wind dancing in tune with your beauty,
While birds announce your presence to the heavens.
Oblivious you'll be to the way nature sings your tune—
Lashes touching the clouds
With a delicateness swans could envy.
Grateful I’ll be that your eyes face the sky,
Lest I get lost if they turn in my direction.
The scene just as I pictured it,
When I first said unto you—
Darling, would you like to do arts & crafts?
Sip, paint, and have a few laughs?
And you turned to me and said—
I do.
