Poem -

Attractive Kindness

I remember the first time I saw you,
larger than life and owning the room.
Infusing confidence into even the meekest of us,
As if contagious with joy.

I fell for you in an instant,
Having barely known your name.
But even my lonely, broken heart
Could feel you all the same.

You were
And are
Too good for me
Too good to be

And so I joined the league of broken hearted,
left in your glorious wake.
having forgotten the golden rule.
Of not making the fool's mistake:

Attraction born from kindness
is fleeting and one way.

And now your smile haunts me still,
And my heart
Though taken and unbroken since...
Reclaims it's past confusion.

And my mind remains
To quell the pain
Of the long lost
Love illusion.
