Basking in Darkness

Nature, sun, I mean Olorun...God,
Yes Olorun, the creator
Who owns copyright to my soul...
Injected the secret ingredient,
Melanin into my conscious stream,
A signature of authentic art
Olorun says,
Just like the signature of an artist,
On his artwork,
So do we connect with colors,
This drop of melanin,
The blackness of your skin,
As black as thought’s home,
Darker than darkness was originally

At the call of the cock’s crow,
Like a zombie,
I arise, bowing before the sun,
And when the sun visits my home at noon,
Under its wings we have a conference,
Through that secret ingredient,
In agreement, I am polished again,
So not to fade away,
Should my cover sit in the midst of others?
The golden stool I am entitled to,
I am, prouder than a peacock,
Proud to be an art of Olorun’s design,
Proud to be sister to darkness,
Privileged to have a black wooly hair,
Proud to be AFRICAN,
Proud to be original,
It is me,
The most beautiful, mother of all,
The African woman……

This poem is celebrating my confidence and pride in being me, an African woman.

Hello Sonia,

Spoken and celebrated with the up most pride in, (not only) you and yourself being but for all those that have came and paved their path before you, yet had not the voice to proclaim out loud, their love for their “sun kissed” transitional essence, from a single woman to a many proud people, with all the possessed attributes, that allows you the right to boast who you are, what you stand for and your every belief. And to those that will wield their place, in the walk of your path, there exist now yet unlike before, a platform to build and continue to carry on, with unequivocal triumph and knowledge that pride and strength of your, existence lies in the numbers of those who can or will no longer talk under breath of what keeps you authentic and natural. You may stand as one, yet you speak louder than the many and on the same token, has left an open invitation for all that don’t know, to know and take that allotted (free) step to get on board……Extremely inviting and true to the heart topic…

Sincerely,
Jim  Arnold

Hi Jim,

Honestly,i am grateful for such a detailed review, you captured my thoughts, and the pressing need for self love and acceptance, in everyone. Even i struggle daily, finding and accepting myself in a world that increasingly professes the African ( Black) as not beautiful, both overtly and covertly. "Basking in darkness" is dedicated to people of all descents who struggle to find themselves in this commercialized  laser fast-pace world we live in.

WowSonia,

Your deliverance of this conglamarative grouping of words in your comment, was very well illustrated
and really hit home and on the contrary, you should feel prouder than proud, that you stand before the whole world and have taken your place in this life, to introduce and bring to light, this tabooish, yet very personal matter, to not only your people,(which is also my people) in mind, body and soul but to the whole world as well....  Continue to hold your ground..All woman are beautiful and you just happen to be a black one, reminding those that have forgotten or just haven't acknowledged it.... (yet)...But continue your introduction and they will...
