Beatless Heart

Beatless Heart

Everybody's got somebody
to lean on.

Or so my mind dreams on,
but awake I lie alone.

On a pillow that can never listen,
and into which I cannot atone.
I can only bide my time,
so awake I lie alone.

Can you see my "FRAGILE" sign,
unwritten as it is?
Of a weakened, deviled heart,
both jaded and scarred.

Its rhythmic beats unmissed...

Handled without care,
Like the end of a hard day's night,
its memory left to die.
By another who let it be.

For in this ever changing world,
she could never change to forgive me.

For I was a loser and a fool
on my hill tucked away,
just one roll from rock bottom,
but too proud to ever say.

So help me if you can,
please take me down..

Down this road, familiar and cold.
The last echo of her last words told:

"The love you take is the love that you make,
so take what we have made and grow old."
