BEFORE I GO

I have a little piece of me
To give
Before I go
For is it not all pointless
If not one exists to know
I loved the birds, you see
Their beauty when in flight
Their chitter chatter singsong
Their colours a delight
And I loved the beasts
All manner of them
Soft down or matted fleece
Wild or tame
Both large and small
βThey were never meant for feast
And did I share with you
The moon
That enchanted mystic ball
The way she kissed the nighttime dark
And held the stars enthralled
And what joy the choir music
The paintings and the verse
All the books in which I travelled
From love to fright to curse
And I shall miss too much
The sparkling streams
The rolling restless seas
The mountains and the woodland
The gold and emerald fields
The poppy and the buttercup
The foxglove and the bees
The perfume of the roses
The earth
The worms
The trees
The rain, the wind
The thunder, snow
I have loved it all
Just so you know
So I share with you
A tiny part
Just a little pieceΒ
Of my grateful heart.
