Besieged(Cornered I)

A cornered deer
Stuck
In thickets,brambles
In mortal fear
Staring at guns.
Thrashing,kicking
Wild
With not a chance
Of escaping
The hunter's lance.
Calling for help
Loud
With no reply
No one to help
No wings to fly.
Hateful hunters
Aim
Their foul weapons,
Canine killers
In for action.
My antlers stuck
In brambles,thorns
I'm hated,mocked
Deprived of horns.
Then suddenly
I
Felt a new strength
I fought fearlessly
Fetters I rent.
Out of the thorns
I
Came out charging
Baring my horns
Kicking,goring.
Hunters,killers
Ran
I teased and mocked
As they scattered
Stunned,shaken,shocked.

A wonderful piece. I hate guns and think we should respect all life no matter how big or small. Well done for this beautifully well written and well thought out piece.

Thank you mum, the poem seems to portray some images on the surface but the real meaning goes a bit deeper: The deer represent a person. The thorns and thickets represent restrictions and limitations caused by the environmental and economical challenges of the third world. The hunters are the wicked people(corrupt politicians, leaders, and faithless people) making it hard for the masses to cope, they are also those who oppress the lowly and belittle the dreams of others, they are killers of ambition. The dogs( canine killers) represent the same thing as their masters.
The "deer" is in a seemingly hopeless situation but it eventually succeeds in turning the situation around to its favour by drawing from its inner strength, charging at the "hunters" and "canine killers" and pursuing them. The poem speaks about me and other people living in the third world.
