Beware The Ides Of April O Mighty Titania----Nostradamus Inspired By Jimmy Arnold’s Poem “Turbulent Waters”

Beware The Ides Of April O Mighty Titania----Nostradamus Inspired By Jimmy Arnold’s Poem “Turbulent Waters”

The White Star Cruise Lines’ pride and joy, She was ready as could be;

The Titanic would take her maiden voyage, this monarch of the seas!

Twenty two hundred would come aboard, on that sunny April day;

Many rich and many poor, First Class or Steerage would they pay!

She left with thousands waving Bon Voyage, to loved ones on all the decks;

Never realizing that only one in three, would survive the disastrous wreck!

Captain Edward Smith rang her mighty horn, as She headed out to sea;

In just nine days to cross the Atlantic, in New York City then to be!

The accoutrements were beyond compare, for the many who rode First Class;

Silk tablecloths and Wedgwood china, with the finest crystal glass!

Rare champagnes and vintage wines, fine steaks and caviar;

The Astors, Rockefellers, their coteries, loved this cruise line called White Star!

The poor had parties on lower decks, they danced and on potatoes dined;

They also had their potables, but cheap rum instead of wine!

Yet very happy did they be, heading to America for a brand new start;

Where family and their dearest friends, had years ago there depart!

But then there came that fateful date, the Ides of April morn;

An iceberg tore into Titanic’s hull, soon Captain Smith blew the disaster horn!

Abandon ship the loud toots meant, all the people in disbelief;

Not knowing what laid in store for them, the epitome of grief!

The crew tried to keep the crowds in check, but chaos soon ensued;

People fought to be on scarce lifeboats, impossible to keep them all subdued!

Women and children were the first to go, with brave husbands left behind;

But some male cowards sneaked on the boats, in history now maligned!

It took not long for them to fill, so few were there that night;

For they had not practiced evacuation, never dreaming of their plight!

So many met their untimely deaths, unlike “Unsinkable Molly Brown”;

They leapt overboard and tried to swim, but in frigid waters drowned!

Many gave their lives that night, their wives and children saved;

As the longboats lowered them all down, to their loved ones did they wave!

Then all at once She turned on side, and started Her deep descent;

To the bottom of the ocean’s floor, where over a century there She’s spent!

O Davy Jones what a horrid sight, your locker is so full;

With souls just lost in the darkened sea, as the Lady down them pulled!

They say that sometimes a passing ship, will hear voices in the air;

They say they’re calling out a plea, “The Ides Of April Beware”!

WOW!!! My Larry this is simply wonderful my darling. My grandmother lost an uncle on the Titanic, a passenger in steerage, trying to emigrate for a better life... from the poor streets of Liverpool!! You have told the story beautifully and I`m so very proud of you for doing it so wonderfully well.

I love you both

My Dear G,

The tragic story of the Titanic has interested me since I was a teenager.  I have read countless articles about it, and of course, who hasn't seen the movie "Titanic".  So sorry that you actually had a distant relative on it.  When I think about the terror that those poor people must have suffered, it sends shivers down my spine.  Thank you so much my love, for your words, which always bring such happiness to my heart and soul.

Love you too,

Larry xxx
