Black Finger Nail

Like 2 Pin it 1My left hand bares
A black fingernail
Under which pink life springs
Fresh and pale...
A fault line like a dirty snow cap
Jagged slate protruding
Black pudding seeping
Dead hair cells turned to ruin...Cardboard extremities
Were all so numb
Until the day of the accident
Brought colour...Purple plumb...Oh how I will miss
My jett black shiney nail
Moving like a glacier
The pace of a snail...A sharp shock to the senses
Was very much greeted
Although painful and accidental
Was very much needed...It's strange how pain
Can make one feel alive
Sharp shocks to the system
Keep the circuits live

Hello Syd, sorry I haven’t been on cosmo in ages. Really love the imagery in this piece. I read it as an analogy for life. Sometimes we can feel so numb that it takes something truly shocking to feel alive. To appreciate life again. It could also be read as a powerful reflection on the sensation of self harm. How pain takes away the numbness. Very cleverly penned
thanks for sharing and hope all is well in your world

Hi Gwen, no need to apologise for not being on Cosmo much. I'm not on here hardly at all these days. I'm going through a really dry patch with writing.
Apologies for the really late reply. You've definitely hit the nail on the head with your comment 😄. Spot on 👏.
Hope you're keeping well - Syd xo
