Black Velvet Band---Inspired by Irish Song

Black Velvet Band

I was a fighter for our freedom
To bring back the green Irish land
But I will end my life with the hangman
Betrayed by her black Velvet band

Her eyes they shone like diamonds
She looked like the Queen of the land
Her hair hung over her shoulders
Tied back with a black velvet band

She came to me in my lodgings
Her beauty it burned like a brand
I told her all of my secrets
As she unclasped her black velvet band

She went to the British Soldiers
Told them all of the things that we planned
We were shot down as she watched us
Betrayed by her black velvet band

Now I am waiting for the gallows
While she watches so sweet and so grand
Her eyes as cold as diamonds
As she clenches her black velvet band
