As our star penetrates the horizon I wonder
What is the purpose of this day, what knowledge shall I plunder
To truly grow I must burst opinion and fact asunder
Rid myself the heavy chains of naivety
Understand what I don't know and learn to make a better me
Believe in not what I am told but what I've been shown
Acquire skills to strengthen and hone
Seek not the validation of another but instead give applause on my own
Appreciate the being that once donned this flesh
See the distance my mind has risen for each test
For I was intoxicated with loathing
Forgiveness for whom inflicted scars is most sobering
Growth is a choice not found when hate is allowed roaming
