Boysenberry Icecream

Boysenberry Icecream

During the Covid lockdown in 2020 archeologists and historians have had opportunity to work overdrive.

A text (tablet K.U.11872W) that had been long housed in a Turkish museum has finally been translated! And what a unique contribution it has made to our understanding of the mythical beliefs of ancient peoples!

.....................
TRANS (English is from Turkish trans of Ugarit text)

K.U.8911H (*Kingu's Wager)

"And Great Anu to Kingu by the fire,

'I perceived that [you ha]ve imagined a basket of sweet edibles.
Frozen into tasty clouds.
Would it [that you] wish to exerience your desire?'

Kingu replied, 'You have perceived correctly. Ind[eed I] so desire'.

'Very well, but in that realm no ecstasy takes place without an exchange.
All of it is within you.
So are you prepared to die?'

'How then shall I [taste it] Sire?'

'Your blood will give substance to trees and berries.
Your flesh to cattle and milk.
[Sa]crificed upon the pyre'

'Yes, [but] I shall be dead. My spirit floating higher'

'No, you shall be naked;
yet, if your children clothe you
then you shall taste what you desire.'

And Kingu [discarded his b]ody.
His blood running into the earth as seed
And flesh [permeating the grou]nd
Till it came to stand within the mire.

Now the spirit of Kingu roams seeking his children's generosity.
Now also he doth tire,
for few grant him his desire."
