Briefly Mentioned in Dispatches
lest we forget
In the field,
they treated him like some kind
of young god,
because to them, he most surely
was a god ..
And though there were so many
things that
needed his immediate attention ..
In effect, those to
be mended or fixed and somehow,
made good enough
to remain and to fight in the field
yet again and again ..
At which point, take note, it was
while in the thick
of it all, he was forced to leave so
many, where they
had either fallen, or lay broken ..
And not through
any personal fatigue or the jitters,
we hasten to add
but some administrative errors ..
And by George,
by then, he had already run out
of those dreadfully
inadequate, fresh dressing packs ..
Those issued earlier
that same day and only a matter
of moments
before the young god himself had
fully bled out ..
He had been the son of a carpenter
no less, yet was
crucified in some bloody foreign field ..
And though only
briefly mentioned, in dispatches shall
never be forgot ..

They are celebrating the Children's Red Cross Hospitals today. They were founded by these Veterans after the War and do great work in Africa. True Heroes Still.
Every word felt, noted and agreed with in this well crafted and sad work. Lest we forget indeed. X
Thank you around twenty two million lives our Marion x
Aye and don't forget the many millions more... since and forever... in all our ongoing interfering and covert
'non' wars. You gotta love the British.
As you say... waste waste waste 💔
of course, the injured, maimed and deformed were not included and account for many millions more .. and then there's the animals who both served and fell too x
And treated like shit once returned also. Don't get me started on the poor animals.
Look... I'm wearing my poppy.
I can feel proud of our boys ( and girls) ... that's the idea isn't it.
We've beautified and romanced it with flowers so that we don't think of it... not the real horror.
x
I am glad you mentioned the girls too .. they so deserve to be remembered x
Oh...this is perfect! Those poor, brave souls ... and I include the animals in that statement. This really is a most wonderful poem ... so bloody well crafted x
Smiles, puffs chest out with genuine pride and leaves stage via nearest exit ..
