Brogues

someone told me
they're lesbian shoes ?!
But I'm still safe..
as houses..
they comfort my soul,
nothing pretentious,
out for a stroll,
feeling marvelous..
I remember wearing
them to school
The first day..
I was five,
everyone crying,
Except me !
My mother was
perplexed that .
I actually wanted
to stay....
and leave her
apron strings
firmly tied,
She told me.
years later it
hurt her
But she was wise..
and didnt staple
my individuality
into ordinary..
my new neat
shoes,
dont spoil them..
I love them ,
they are comfort..
no fashion guru
made me chose,
the delight of
my lesbian shoe..
it was solely me
