Poem -

Broken Innocence

The face of the summer sun, she walked with light and a smile.

She carried a joy that was gated yet she did not know.

The cross around her neck was her book cover.

Yet she did not know.

Like the breeze in the change of season her page turned into fall.

Snug as the boots on her feet she walked into the night.

The glow of the moon gave a new light that radiated in her heart.

Her cross they saw and smiled.

With a smile back and a tug at her chain it slowly chimed on the ground.

Yet she still walked with the light and a smile.

Yet she did not hear the chime of the fall.

The darkness kissed her sun and made the moon.

In a different light revealing her bare neck.

A beauty so pure had embraced the new light.

Yet she did not know.

The smoke in the night entered the beauty.

The laugh of a child was not heard again and noticed by the stars.

The drop of rain ran down her cheek as the darkness struggled to blind her.

She no longer saw yet she danced.

Her release was the poison she drank that was seen in the moonlight.

Walking towards the moon she faced the new light.

The veil was torn no longer blind from the darkness.

In the cold night the smoke rose from her breath releasing itself from inside her.

Yet she did not know.

From a distance she heard the echo of a chime.

In the night she saw the light.
