Poem -

Bubble

I am a cold bubble, sliding slickly
along your body, viscous and prismatic,
too smooth to touch, too cold to hold.
I am contained within myself,
behind an exterior too opalescent to view;
I hurt your eyes and slip
through your fingers. I have made myself
unobtainable, a mystery.

You beg me for information, for mercy,
for a glimpse. And I give it to you
in brief flashes, like a peep show, like something
almost indecent.
But I never show you the whole;
I cannot bare myself to you, cannot shed
this beautiful iridescent skin, cannot
drop my camouflage.
I cannot tell you, cannot shout, cannot
whisper, cannot speak my thoughts,
cannot share -
I cannot open your eyes to all of me,
to my depths and darkness, to the shadows
that lurk beneath the candy shell.

I am a sweet treat
you do not want to eat.
