Poem -

Cancer

You came upon this family,

And you tore us all apart.

You’ve tarnished us with agony,

And you’ve broken all our hearts.

You’ve killed so many people,

That it is so hard to believe.

Coz’ you’ve left us old and feeble.

We’re surprised you’ll ever leave!

You’ve taken too many lives,

Of the young and innocent.

You’ve take what was mine.

There are no solutions, possibilities are much too infinite.

You’re too much like the devil.

Trying to take what isn’t yours.

You’re the purest form of evil.

Creator of many wars.

Like a helpless young child,

who cannot fight back.

You take an unfair advantage

But courage is what you lack.

Although my Nana no longer has a smile.

Even though she’s really gone. But I can wait a while.

Until I see her smiling face.

Through heaven I enter, the white pearly gates.

But I will always remember how you took her away.

And I hope you never come back.

Leave us alone and never lead us astray.

Linzie,

Hello- I share your pain. My mother died of liver cancer when I was 15. I'm 44 now and the pain is still fresh. She didn't smoke- she didn't drink. She was a good Christian woman well-loved by many. I was angry at God for a long time (and for many tragedies that came later). Still, part of her is still alive in me- and the best way for me to honor her is to show the world the soul of the son she raised (I was adopted as a baby). It hurt to read this piece but it made me let out some of what I keep inside. Keep the faith.
