Can't Be Unseen

I have opened one page too many
And on that page, books
And in each book a library
And in each library an archaeological site
Evidences of things not quite right

It was a kind of faith that pulled at the magnetism on my soles
I trusted that You are and that You reward the treasure hunters
But one mayor's treasure is another mayor's problem
Especially when rainbows bleed foul over borderlines

And how many limbs have I lost to the mines
I'm lucky I have one good eye that hasn't been replaced by metal yet
I'm a horror to behold
Reflecting all that I've beholden along the pilgrim's road

It's not a very whole Holy Grail but I've done the hard yards
It's been a walk of shame like Via d'la Rosa
Losing my very flesh to rats in the gutters
Who adopted my lover even before she was a mother

And now I wait for the rain that is said to wash it all away
Like etching into matt acrylic to reveal a marbled underlay
Wait for the calculation of the Great Mathemagician to give the ok
Like a loyal tax agent, come in grace to save the day
