Poem -

Can’t settle that sleepy head

Can’t settle that sleepy head

Can’t settle that sleepy head, that busy head, as it lays against the pillow
As the body relaxes
The eyes spring open
As if a mind of them selves
As if a will unto their own

More wriggling
Thinking
Watching in this digital age
In bed without turning a page
The blue light invading those willfull eyes

Yet sleep won’t come
Won’t think to come
Even though the 3 year old beside me sleeps
Threatening to wake with every hour passing
Every minute dawn is closing in on me
Birds are breathing in their trees, waiting  to sing their majestic melody, in a few hours when the first rays of light glow into the dark.

And as I snuggle down, into the warm cave in my bed, impatiently closing my eyes willing sleep, yet again they spring open into the dark, awake.
