Poem -

CATCHING RAINDROPS

When I am done
I shall set down this weight
Under an elm or an oak
Where the leaves might curl themselves
To catch raindrops
Or by the wild foxgloves in June

When I am done
I shall place the weight gently
Before the universe or god
Or the light
And say thankyou but I don't wish it back
For it is too full and sits heavily
Upon my shoulders

When I am done
I shall recall how it was once empty
With a promise and a hope
Allowed me to grow strong
To travel far
How it has filled and spilled
Many times
More times than I can count

Filled and spilled with love
And loves memory
With children
And children's children
With friends and happiness
Song and sunlight
Laughter and knowledge
And scented things

Filled and spilled also
With nameless things
Untill my breath is laboured
With all things unseen
And my heart is slowed
With all the things
Known
And my footstep is heavy
Burdened with disappointments
And loss

Sorrow and tears
So many tears

So when I am done
I shall set down this weight
Under an elm or an oak
Where the leaves might curl themselves
To catch raindrops
Or by the wild foxgloves in June
And say thankyou
But I don't wish it back
I am done.

Wow!

Favorite part:

So when I am done
I shall set down this weight
Under an elm or an oak
Where the leaves might curl themselves
To catch raindrops
Or by the wild foxgloves in June

Extremely descriptive. Loved the images of the foxgloves.

I also liked how you repeated the line, "When I am done"
