Poem -

Chalkboard

If I wrote down everything you promised me
The board would be filled.
The chalk staining my left hand
As I viscously write down the lives you've made up for us
But like clockwork you let me finish
Filling the entire board with our stories
Then erasing my work without a second thought.
For a while I quietly watched you
Picking back up the chalk
And rewriting our stories like you promised
But this time when I finished and read it outloud
It didn't sound the same.
These stories were always fairy tales
And you were the villain the entire time.
So like a knight I saved myself
And before you got the chance
I erased the chalkboard.
