Poem -

Changing

I am so
incredibly
unfathomably
determined
to love you
the way that
I didĀ
last summer
when my hair was longer
and your heart
still showed
compassion;Ā
but how can
you love someone
who treats
every word
you say
(even the most
endearing phrases
with a gentle design)
as a petalĀ
from a flower--
"she loves me
she loves me
she loves meĀ
she loves me"
(for well you know
love is the only option
for someoneĀ
who walks over
concrete
to save the life
amongst the weeds)
--from the garden
of good intentions
only to close
a fist
around the colors
that make up
the happiness
you try toĀ
instill in them
because they know
you are too
terrified by
loneliness
to actually
turn andĀ
leave?
