Chicago One Night

Shall I say, at worker bee's dusk
The hush of the city, descending
Is a part of the Love affair
That" in tune" Chicagoan's
Recognize daily
And along the "Magnificent Mile"
Where you can touch the ease
Of the downtown day's ending
Music lover's, wending their way to "Halsted Street"
Where the peanut shells dance to the blues
On the floor, at "Kingston Mines"
And poets painting pictures with spoken words
Over at "The Green Mill", smile a knowing smile
While Johnnie and Charlie control the beat
Sittin' on the corner, with no legs from the war
Feelin' the jazz, fill their paper cups
With friendly dollars and Chicago style advice
"Don't drink the money away baby,
'Cuz it gets cold at night, in "The Windy City"
And as the hush of the town becomes a veil
Darkness prevails, and morphs into
The blistering - after hours - "Night Life"
But not me, I change the scene
I sneak onto the closed beach front
And watch the sparkling lights reflecting
From the towering buildings, on Lake Shore Drive
In the rippling waters of Lake Michigan's waves
I remove my shoes, dig my toes into the sand
I sip red wine, take out my pen,
And I begin to write,
Of Chicago,
One night...

Hello Tony...
I have not been to Chicago yet...
I don't know if I will make it there one day...
It is a city I would love to visit...
Do they still stab people in the butt?
I know I asked that question a couple of years ago...
I was just wondering...
I love to read your experiences and life in what sounds like a golden city...
You can take the man out of Chicago, but you can't take Chicago out of the man...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...
Hugz and Smiles!

Hello Tony...
I was thinking of going there a couple of years ago...
As an adventure...
Every person I have met from there were always real cool...
I was going to go alone...
I checked out the crime rate and the types of crimes there...
It warned about butt stabbing...
I was thinking I could get a pillow and wear it inside my pants...
The feeling I had was nothing was going to stop me...
Then I asked myself a very important question...
If one day I find myself in Chicago on an adventure alone...
I don't want to have to wear a pillow on my butt...
I was wondering if they stopped doing that...
Then I was going to ask if crimes have slowed down as the rest of the country...

My Brother Poet Tony,
Your beautiful words and rhythmic scheme is like listening to a Jazz tune by the great Dave Brubeck. I swayed to and fro with each line. Your lovely tribute to the unparalleled "Windy City" is breathtaking. I too have walked the beaches of Lake Michigan, and partied on Rush Street into the wee hours of the morning, because, as a young man, I often drove with my father from Dayton, Ohio to Chicago for National Sales Meetings. We often dined at "Eli's", the greatest steakhouse of its time. I always loved Michigan Ave and was amazed at how clean the city was. Later, when I became an Art Dealer, I often flew to Chicago on business, always staying at the"Continental Plaza" with its wonderful health spa. By the love of your words, I can tell Chicago is "your kind of town", but I can also tell you it is "my kind of town", too!
Peace, Love and Rockets,
xox Larry
