Colliers don't dance

Colliers Don't Dance
We lived on a hill..
a village of Coal..
rabbits clambered up
But not Tamla nor Soul..
mid seventies the disco
was still..
yet we girls were
giving it all
But the men.. hugged the bar
with their pints of lager
flexing their muscles
mixing snakebite cider.. ..
make them look harder.. ..
in the midst of Winter
they were hard.. without coats
But none of them danced
not one... single bloke..
call this Northern Soul..?
We danced on our own
By light of day glow T shirt
we danced there and back, AND in the toilets till it hurt..
But no sign of the lads taking
the floor.. they didn't dance..
No Sir none that we saw..
Bar one special man..
A Lamp Cabin lad
gentle spirited.. he knew
all check numbers by heart,
with Red Light Spelt Danger,
the limelight he owned .. Every part..
was a delight to see all the fun,
Bless him.. they don't know..
There's a ghost in their house..
Spinning moves down
Wigan Cassino
