The Color Amarillo

The Color Amarillo
Amarillo is the color of chrysanthemums my Spanish 101 professor said
Suddenly, my mind filled with flashbacks of a time of torment
Yellow, a color so pale like my old man’s skin kissed by snowflakes
In that winter day, when he lay down staring at me with a mute face
The snow so white, the blood so red, the lips purple, the skin so pale
I see it so clearly in the classroom; clearer than through a magnifying glass
I breathe-in the cold air; and the snowflakes, as I did on the day of torment
His eyes turned gray still watch me sharply, piercing through the crystalline tears
His legs teetering; his voice, oh so quietly whispering,- still echoes in my ears
I stare out of the classroom’s window at the weeping willow’s yellow leaves
Clouds of fog sit still above the willow, and I begin to heavily breathe
Fall is here and winter nearing, and so is the cloud of anguish upon my soul
My mind so gloomy my body weary, I wish, I could have done more
Then, I was just a child, forced to watch those men dressed in gray
As they drained out bits of your life; all I could do was scream and pray
I prayed God, prayed, and prayed some more, till the last drop of hope died in me
I gave up on Him, and faith, and everything I was ever ought to believe in Thee!
The snow so white, the blood so red, the lips purple, the skin so pale
Flash in my head day and night like a broken record stuck on replayÂ
