Gathered into the fold
Upheld as the new ideal
A literary hero

My fingers feel the beat
Of society’s rhythm
I am told
A new way of telling the old

How deftly and with poise they kiss my hand
I feel overwhelmed
As I am now unable to rock the boat
An establishment figure
I have now become

A long journey to this day
Doubt consumed me along the way
Rejections were coolly accepted and built upon
I feel great now that I have won a prize
That always seemed so far
Am I truly now a glittering star?
