Cry
A tribute to my late friend
Last weekend in the city
I gave twenty pounds away
Last afternoon in the city
The dam walls gave way
There was homeless personΒ
Begging in the streetΒ
I was guided by an invisible forceΒ
A friendly meet and greet
However I stopped short
Of giving my socks and shoes away
I'm no Dave Coxon that's for sure
But I sure did make his day
I sat down in the street beside him
And shared his hobo's wine
I offered him a cigarette
Which he politely declined
The homeless remind me of my late friend
His phrase was "Only Love"
Tears cascaded down my cheeks
As if from clouds above
Now I cry when no one's watching
Teardrops on dry sandstoneΒ
Preferring no arms around me
No beacons to guide me home

My husband and I were kicked out of the place we were renting cause my husband lost his job. we were homeless for two months till we managed to get back up on our feet. We now own a home and drive an awesome car.Β
Glad to hear everything worked out ok in the end Lisa π
Wonderful write Syd...it's got to be a terrifying experience to find yourself out on the streets...x
Thank you Marion, I'm glad you enjoyed this poem. Yes, I certainly wouldn't want to be in that situation myself.
