Poem -

Cry

A tribute to my late friend

Cry

Last weekend in the city
I gave twenty pounds away
Last afternoon in the city
The dam walls gave way

There was homeless personΒ
Begging in the streetΒ
I was guided by an invisible forceΒ
A friendly meet and greet

However I stopped short
Of giving my socks and shoes away
I'm no Dave Coxon that's for sure
But I sure did make his day

I sat down in the street beside him
And shared his hobo's wine
I offered him a cigarette
Which he politely declined

The homeless remind me of my late friend
His phrase was "Only Love"
Tears cascaded down my cheeks
As if from clouds above

Now I cry when no one's watching
Teardrops on dry sandstoneΒ
Preferring no arms around me
No beacons to guide me home

Thank you Marion, I'm glad you enjoyed this poem. Yes, I certainly wouldn't want to be in that situation myself.

Take careΒ  - Syd xoΒ
