DAD WAS WATCHING TOO

DAD WAS WATCHING TOO

I got a feeling my dad was looking down on me
If he did he would see mum and myself on the settee
We were transfixed by a football match on a TV screen
Both of us thinking of the place where dad would have been

Derby County were playing Man United on their turf
Derby our team was also the place of our birth
The Rams beat United my God what a story
Dad was looking from above to share in the glory

When the match was over I hugged my mum
I reassured her of the difficult days to come
So thank you Derby County for a night to remember
Our family will never forget the 25th of September
