daddy

I used to be twinkle in my daddy's eye,
Now we're as distant as an ant to the sky,
We used to walk hand in hand down the street,
With our England shirts over our head,
And our boots on our feet,
We screamed and cheered as we watched the cup,
And both bumped our heads as we jumped up,
I used to be a twinkle in my daddy's eye,Β
But now I guess his feelings have withered and died.
I used to be a twinkle in my daddy's eye,
But now he looks like he's gonna die,
He's a spectrum of colours,
Just not the right ones,Β
He's ill and distant and weighs half a ton,
I used to be a twinkle in my daddy's eye,
But now we prepare to say good byeΒ
I used to be a twinkle in my daddy's eye,
Not a shout for help or even a cry,
I remember the day I saw him turn grey,
And the day he Β wished his life away,
I remember the day he told me he's never been happy,Β
Is the wife the daughters and the grandchildren really that crappy,
But is it a lesson Β or maybe a path?
Will he learn? Or grow old in regret?
But I know now I won't hesitate to forget,
The pain the anguish and heartbreak you have caused,
For you I am not putting my life on pause,
Whether it be death or loneliness,Β
You chose your path and I hope it leaves you with happiness,
You deserve.
I used to be a twinkle in my daddy's eye,
But now I know it was just a lie.Β
