Daffodils

The daffodils on the roundabout were for all to see
Some say it was fate that day and it could well be

As she tugged her mother's hand in glee
Her mother let her hand free

The little girl fled to the roundabout with certainty
That's when disaster strook
She was hit by a speeding truck

In a hospital bed the little girl said
"It's okay mother I'm truly not dead, the daffodils are here instead"
One last breath, and she was dead.
Her mother cried out to alert the staff
But the moment seemed to last
Her mother let her hand free

Upon the grave she lay a single daffodil to mark the day
She cried out in dismay

On the way home she passed the roundabout
Where the daffodils were all to see
