Poem -

dancing shoes

You saw the tears
you heard our fears.
the lord called you home
we were left there.

your shoes tapping the floor
you had opened the door
you started a passion
showed me compassion.

everything from a do-se-do
to a right left through.
always reminding me to grab my badge and dancing shoes.
you were proud of who
I wanted to be, who I was, who you were

your eyes would shine
you would keep us in line.
you grabbed your dancing shoes and showed me
how to dance. It haunts my memory

New Years through Christmas you would show
just what I had to know
the welcome back to graduation you were watching
now you are here but not in physical form.

we had known the time you would have to go
you had left to see the angels ever so fair
you would help them learn to work the square.
now I have to remember you by are pictures, buckles,
bolos
and your dancing shoes
