Dark Night

Dark Night

Many nights I felt alone,
With hope deferred, my cries for home,
As nighttime seemed to last so long,
And all I heard were sad, sad songs.

Turning in my bed, I'd pray,
A faith I held, still locked in chains,
Yet something in my inner man,
It let me know God wasn't dead.

So hope, I'd claim, and start to pray,
Which then a soft voice called my name,
Reminding me that He was there,
Assurance that He really cared.

That dark night, I found new hope,
And morning sun rose then to know,
For looking at the bright blue sky,
I knew right then I could dry eyes.
