Dear Diary

Dear Diary
By: Alicia Nicole Draper
Dear Diary,
As you know I have a disability.
CP or cerebral palsy to be exact.
And you know something
It's funny...
My fingers don't always listen to me
Sometimes I ask them to hold up three
But I end up with four...
Sometimes when I walk I
Drag my shoes on the rugged ground
Until I scrape a hole so big
In my soles and socks
That my uncovered toe appears.
You can't miss me in a crowd,diary
I'm chrome on wheels
And a lot of people stare.
But you know what, diary?
God says that OK-
He tells me let them stare,Alicia.
I made you to be
A daughter
A sister
A wife
A best friend
A writer
A person with a good sense humor.
And everyday
He reminds me
Not to forget that I am
His serving teacher.
I don't teach math
Thank goodness! I have never been good at that.
English I'm okay at that as you know.
And science well...
I don't even know the solar system
But I do know my place in the world.
Everyday, diary He is calling me to teach
Patience, kindness, and love.
Subjects, you can't teach in one day
and take a lifetime to learn.
It's a rough job
But Diary!
God has given me this walker or as I like to call it- my silver chariot
Brains, and my feet to go...
Gosh, what I am still doing here, diary?
My students are waiting.
