Poem -

Dear Future Wife

Dear future wife,
So, what's for lunch?
Nah, I'm just messing with you
No need to get your panties in a bunch.
Hell in fact, I feel so good right now
That I'm gonna cook for you.
So what'll it be beautiful?
Grilled cheese or chicken soup?
Fantastic.
I would have chosen the same.
And maybe after lunch we can go watch the football game?
Or sit and talk.
I'm cool with that too.
Anything is cool,
As long as I'm with you.

Dear future wife,
What just happened to the atmosphere?
Why are you staring me down like that?
What? Our three years?
Of course I didn't forget!
Who do you take me for?
Alright alright already.
But don't hit this arm, it's still sore.
You're right I'm sorry.
I just got so caught up with work.
I forgot to set my priorities straight.
I know that I'm a jerk.
And a loser. And a failure.
An idiot and a quitter.
I'm surprised you haven't left me yet.
You deserve so much better.

Dear future wife,
I'm so proud of you, hun.
We did it. Together.
Come say hi to your baby son.
He's got your eyes. And lips.
And the dimples when you smile.
So in the end I guess
It was worth it all the while?
Do you have any names?
I'll agree with any you pick.
Yeah I was thinking Matt.
Ouh, that's a good one though: Nick.
I love you so much.
I'm really just so glad.
I'm ready to raise our family.
I'm ready to be a dad.

Dear future wife,
I know things have been quite rough.
We only spend an hour together
And really, that's not enough.
I spend my day thinking of you,
And making sure you're well,
Making money to buy us food,
And pay all of the endless bills.
Our family is so broken
And our home is out of shape,
But work is turning up for me.
I've been trying to get a raise.
It's been stressful. I know.
But you can leave your stress with me.
You deserve some time to relax.
I'll take care of it, go to sleep.

Dear future wife,
Worrying is the last thing I want for you.
Truth is I'm getting sick.
And there's nothing we can do.
I don't need any medication.
I'm simply getting old,
A common cause of death.
The most common, so I'm told.
I'm glad that you are here.
The doctors are kind of blind.
The only thing I need
is you by my side.
We did it. We made it.
An average life for two.
Before I go, just know that
I'm glad that it was with you.

Dear future wife,
Hi. It's younger version of me.
I wrote this poem in grade 12
When I was only sixteen.
There's probably a bunch of other events
That I skipped or missed.
But honestly right now
I'm just happy you exist.
