The Death of the Mocking Bird (tribute to Harper Lee)

I was a fledgling in the nest

When you perched in the branch of life

And sang your Southern tale!

Now I’m a little older and wiser

And my thoughts soar across the ocean

To that land of the eagle,

But it is not to the high and lofty,

Rather to you O Mocking Bird

Whose tune no one else dared to play!

Now your voice is silent

But your words are still provocative.

Alas! Little Mocking Bird, I wonder….

What other songs you would of sung

Had you not said all you had to say?
