December Short

"I think love is a touch and yet not a touch."—J.D. Salinger

A velveteen petal of brushing lips remains
where last I felt the unveiled fusion.

Lids heavy-shut can make clear—

dual truth spiralling in a tempest,

where breaches of foam sway the ship to a slumber.

Our heads lay—long befallen.

Deep in our beds, draped with all acceptance—

the same expression of a touch

and yet not a touch.
