Poem -

DeepRest

There's a light on downstairs,
On a whole different floor.
But it’s casting a glare,
That’s creeping under my door.
And in silent protest
Saying ”you can not rest”
But on your way down to end it
You found that there was much more...

A TV still playing,
But its on volume one
And a newscaster saying;
”we can't believe what he’s done”

There are gaps in the curtains,
And they’re letting in light.
And soon people start working,
And you’ve lost your whole night.

So you go to the kitchen.
To find something holistic,
A radio there’s whispering;
Reading out some statistics.

Now with all sounds defeated,
You race back to bed.
But then you can’t believe it,
When the sun rears its head.

Straight past prevention,
And into ignoring;

The fat neighbour snoring
A raven bird caw-ing
Calling, ”soon comes the mourning...”
”and its for you my dear”
A distant rope swinging...
But its all you can hear.

If i could just find some quiet.
If i could just disappear.
