Despondency

Scream!
Into the wind.
Blown back into my face.
Only I hear...
Others carry on,
Oblivious,
Content in their security.
No body hears,
My cries of desperation.
Carry on...
Their blinkers are on,
Stare straight ahead,
Never left or right,
Just ahead, always...
See no troubles.
The end is coming,
Silently raging,
Brazenly flaunting,
Sauntering causally onwards,
Unhindered...
Ready to reap the ripened fields of man.
Like ants they scurry around,
Carrying their burdens,
Ignorant of the dilemma they face.
Shake my head,
Throw my hands up,
Might as well watch,
The fast approaching show.
Shiver...
Gluttonous promise of feast,
It neither tarries, nor strays.
Eventual meeting...
To church,
I go,
Resigned...
It is emptier...
Sorry state of affairs,
Less people care...
...
Today the sermon,
Heard only by seven,
Shall find no new home.
Shall inspire no real hope.
All it is...is but a show,
A lost show.
I have, like them, lost faith.
From looking to long...
To long at the material world.
I have become uncaring,
To the plight we face...
I am ashamed!
It is time to confess and...
Put on my vestments once more.
There is always hope.
One man can save the world,
I need but follow his teachings.

Phillip, terrific work...intense poem that speaks of the dark side of human nature; indifference and lack of compassion, and they themselves unreachable...and when the poem shifted to the church all I could see was the church of Laodicea (Revelation 3) (neither hot nor cold) caught up in the ceremonial, just going through the motions un-effected, thinking themselves in a good place...thought provoking write, well writer with depth and intelligence, terrific read, Phillip

Thank you, I appreciate the time you took to read my work and to comment. I enjoy reading what people take from my poems, majority of the time they nail it, sometimes they even surprise me.
