Diamo

It was a gray and stormy day, filled with mutterings of thunder,
He picked his way carefully thru the monuments of those covered under.
He saw upon a grave a woman who looked spellbound by her pain,
And realized the grave he sought was the one and the same.
As she looked up and stared, you could see her color drain;
‘Cause the man in front of her was the same one in the grave.

Her eyes were hollows of madness; He could tell she was in Hell.
“You’re his son!” she exclaimed, as understanding fell,
“He spoke of you often, and I know he regretted never meeting,
But it seems all thru his life his sanity was fleeting.
God made him blind to a way out of misery,
So he finally overdosed – It’s such a tragedy.

His heart was so full of passion, and we was a very smart man,
But the chains of addiction shackled him again and again and again.
I have a letter for you, that he wrote once – just in case,
It’s tattered and torn now, ugly and defaced,
I’ve carried it for years, and never let it go.
You see he was my one true love, though now you’d never know.”

As he opened up the letter, yellowed and brittle with age,
She laid her hands upon the tombstone, and released years of rage.
She still loved him fiercely, the young man could tell by her pain,
But it was the dirge that made him pause and listen to what she sang.

“Diamo, now and forever, rhythm of my blood,
I will not forget.
You set my soul on fire,
And I live with that regret.
So as you disturb the Universe,
And watch from up above;
Please come down and visit me,
And shower me with love.
Diamo, now and forever.”

The words were old and smeared, but wrote with loving hands,
Any trace of bitterness died as he read what his Father said.
“My son – Hello. How are you? It’s nice to finally talk.
I guess if you’re reading this it wasn’t during my earthly walk.
I have many things to tell you; so many things to say,
I’ve wrote you many letters, so it won’t all be today.

The woman who carried this letter, my sun and moon she is.
I exposed her to my insanity; she tried to save me from my fits.
But I sank into darkness – such is an addict’s life,
So I had to watch her walk away; I’ve since lived in Hell and strife.
Only one thing I’ve found that matters any little bit at all –
It’s Love, pure and simple; letting go and enjoying the fall

Our hearts are made of glass, so sometimes you’ll get hurt,
But only one can ever shatter it; leave you lying in the dirt.
When you find that one, no ordinary word will do;
So here’s a very special one – ‘Diamo’ – It means ‘I love and cherish you’.

“Diamo, now and forever, my son,
I never did forget.
I thought about you night and day,
So I died with two regrets.
But as I disturb the Universe,
And watch from up above;
I’ll come down and visit you,
And shower you with love.
Diamo, now and forever.”

“Tell my sun that I missed the days of her warmth and her light,
And tell my moon that I missed the shadows in my night.
I hope you grew up brave, and wise beyond your years,
Now go and live your life, waste on me no tears.”

“I once was his sun and moon,” the woman said with a smile,
“We were high school sweethearts, then so much more for a while.
He promised me eternity, now I see that’s true,
I just wish he could’ve waited until he had at least met you.”
The young man smiled thru his tears, and said so tenderly,
“He says to tell you ‘Diamo’, and he missed you constantly.
You must have held his heart, for he loved you oh so much.”
And as he left he placed the letter in her hands with a gentle touch.

The young man went home, to his wife and newborn son,
And paused out in the driveway to reflect on what he’d done.
His puzzled wife came to the door and asked, “How did it go?”
And as he turned to hold and kiss her, he said only “Diamo.”

“Diamo, now and forever, my love,
I will not forget.
Let’s live each day to the fullest,
So we’re left with no regret.
And as Dad disturbs the Universe,
We’ll have help from up above;
He’ll always be beside us,
To shower us with love.
Diamo, now and forever.”
