Diamonds Are Forever
My dearest Mother and my Dad, I could not love them more;
And today’s their anniversary; it would have been seventy-four!
Had they lived, I know how they’d celebrate, this very special day;
They’d have danced until the clock struck twelve; then said, “our Diamonds one away”!
For my Mother was a “Dancing Queen”, who toured professionally;
In well-known clubs in NYC, is where her act you’d see!
And my Father was a Mambo King, from the City of Brotherly Love;
His gifted moves were sent to him, from Heavens up above!
One night he came to “The Bali Club”, to dance and have some fun;
But first he watched my Mother’s act, then to her dressing room did he run!
He’d greet her with a long-stemmed rose, that he’d purchased on the way;
He knocked two times on her “starlit” door, and then began to pray!
She opened it and smiled at him, then spoke the words “pour moi?”
Her voice invited interest, far above “comme ci, comme ca”!
He asked if she would like a drink, she replied “Martini, shaken, but never stirred”;
She said, “Give me ten minutes to freshen up. I’ll meet you in row third
Sure enough, right on the dot, she strode up to his side;
As many men had eyes on her, “so beautiful”, they cried!
They laughed and danced until the close, then a breakfast did they share;
As dawns’ first light crept through the stars, they kissed and knew they cared!
From that day on they’d never part, in weeks, they pledged their love;
Knowing that their soulmates came, sent down from “up above”!
Through thick and thin, for four decades, they were the stars of any ball;
The “Dancing Queen” and “Mambo King”, the greatest of them all!
