Poem -

DNA

I hold secure the DNA that is me,

A structure within that belongs to all before me

Of a grandmother who was steadfast

I yearn to dance in her shoes.

Of my grandfather the disappointed drunk

I share his heart for the world

Of my mother whose eyes we share

With spirituality coursing through us both

And of my father whom I understand

I have your stubborn fearful nature

And with it I exist in a beautiful world tied to the people before me.

I pass my portion to my children seeing a mine-field of the inevitable.

I wait, expectantly for the beauty of creativity to develop before me

Into an individual who will always have us.
