Don't Care

There she was standing in the classroom

As the teacher unknowingly spoke familiar words

"I'm sorry" 

Her ears rang and her eyes felt like they were hot coals burning into her head- space 

And all of a sudden the world crashed on her

Choking up on trapped verses to misguided songs

As if on cue a helpful yet suffocating hand wrapped around her shoulder

This was it... the big choice

There was nothing wrong with me.. but everything's so backwards 

I want your help but i am strong 

And my mom made me promise, the day this would inevitably happen

I wouldn't cry

................

Shaking off the hand, looking the teacher in the eye

"I don't care" The words were loud, sharp and angry

They left bruises on the wall and the ceiling 

But they killed the teacher's heart

For she knew that she cared and soon her student's grief will grow greedy

And devour her will
