Downward Spin

Scale and depth of fall
Took me by surprise
Hole in the snow my foot never saw
Gone, crashing down

Sun still shone, sky still blue
Birds sing as I feed them their breakfast
World however slipping
Foot on ice, skating with no control.

The headache was back
Agitation, palpitation
Fingers to the quick
Beyond little red bites, sore and bloody
Bruises, bumps on arms and cheeks.

Fear of tomorrow
Where to sleep
Back of the car beckons
Brown blanket in ice and wind.

Perhaps when the dawn breaks ?
When sun shines
Wind blows clouds scurrying past
Perhaps ?
