Drift

I set my playlist to whitenoise crackling fire and imagine the swishing traffic by my window is really waves of the sea

A truck honk becomes the sound of ships passing in the night

Bleeps and cheeps from household appliances are forest insects serenading one another

An aircraft overhead is a patrol jetski skirting the shoreline

Neighbours muttering through apartment walls are tribal cheifs deliberating village politics in a palmleaf longhouse

And I drift
