Drowning

There was once a boy I knew,
Who's mind was a deep dark sea,
Fighting hard with all he had,
To stay afloat in reality.
But the waves of that sea were heavy,
As they caught his limbs and tugged him down,
Screaming out into the silence,
But no one heard a sound.
For depression is like drowning,
But everyone else is breathing fine,
Because the deep dark sea which held him captive,
Remained unseen within his mind.
No one noticed the awful war,
That was being waged inside his head,
Or the nights he spent in agony,
Crying alone awake in bed.
But by far the cruelest thing,
At least from what I've seen,
Is he was never truly drowning,
Until he opened his mouth to breathe.

Hi Meggan A lovely first poem submittedÂ
I like how you compared depression to drowningÂ
