Embers of My Heartland

Embers of My Heartland

Agni crackles
He puffs
Agni ignites
and he engulfs
The eternal consumer
transfigures all density
into a floating airy propensity

Like blind justice
he swings his nostrils
indescriminately there
over Australia's forests
and urban edges

Lives are invisible
only oxygen vision
drives our ancient friend
on his current mission

His counterpart
and nemesis
is nowhere to be found
The panic of Australis' inhabitants
cannot be drowned

I am so far away
there's nothing I can do
but pray for mercy
on the Great South Land
and hope the worst is through

But I share guilt somehow
as though I was a muted Watcher
because I failed to convey a revelation
of the Hebrew culture

See several months ago
was Pentecost
It came at a time
when Down Under was lost

Her churches dying
for lack of faith
and then to me a message
came

But I did not have the guts
to pass it on
and thought perhaps
my instinct wrong

That soon would come
a time of judgment
If the people of the Vine
did not repent

But just like them
I hoarded my resources
The sound did not go out
by the Watcher's voices

We were silent
I'm sure I wasn't the only one
But here I disclose
my confess-ion

Incredible, although I'm still looking up some of the words you used in the poem. What a terrific job in confusing me! I'm happy about this because, when a poem portrays a subject matter that is not known by everyone, it makes you think more about why the author chose certain subjects and words. I'm impressed. I would like to reread after I learn a little more about Hinduism (That is the internal meaning, correct? I'm still uncertain, but the words used worked well for me. Fantastic job. I gave you 5 stars because the poem made me think, encouraged me to learn more about the words used and because I think you took a great deal of time writing.

Happy Holidays from Newark, Ohio
I'm trying to read and review 100 poems a day -- eventually!

Agni (/ˈæɡni/ AG-nee, Sanskrit: अग्नि, Agní, Pali: Aggi, Malay:                  Api) is a Sanskrit word meaning fire, and connotes the Vedic fire             god of Hinduism. He is also the guardian deity of the southeast               direction, and is typically found in southeast corners of Hindu                   temples.

What a deep and much appreciated comment you have left! And well done indeed to follow the breadcrumbs and explore this rabbit hole of ecumenical symbolism. Brilliant job!!! Shalom
